About GLIDER

I'm Rafi and GLIDER is my one-man passion project :) I've been obsessed with noisy alternative music for over twenty years, and this magazine is a way to document that in print form. In each issue of GLIDER, you'll get:

  • Multiple original reviews and essays for records both popular and obscure
  • 1x Special Feature retrospective: a  deep dive on an iconic band. Issue #1 features RIDE
  • 1x review from my vinyl collection
  • 1x review from my book collection
  • 1x Zine (10 pages)
  • A timeline of key events from a particular year in shoegaze history (Glider #1 starts at 1990)
  • Original graphics: fake ads, timelines, generative art

A Print Magazine? Really?

Yes, GLIDER could have been a website. Heck, I'm a web designer after all. Not a great one, mind you, but certainly capable enough to put words on the internet without much hassle.

But the truth is, the printed word matters. It is concrete and permanent in the way a website is not. The internet is getting ever more ephemeral, cloistered and opaque. Today's bookmark becomes tomorrow's 404 page.

But perhaps most importantly, making something physical is just simply more fun. I grew up with music magazines, and loved the zany layouts, weird graphics and counter-culture feel. That's what I wanted to re-capture here.

It doesn't matter to me that the "magazine" as a medium has fallen out of style. The finished product feels more substantial in my hands when I hold it, and I'm confident you'll feel the same.

Just the FAQs

As this is a small indie publication, I use a local print shop to make sure I'm contributing to the local economy. No "print-on-demand" here! The prices were pretty much the same anyway!
